4 Advantages Of Private Elementary Schools

Elementary school is said to be the most critical stage in a child’s education. Elementary school age starts from kindergarten through to fifth grade, where kids are usually between the ages of five and 10. Your little one learns and builds their numbers and letters foundation, which is fundamental in math problem-solving skills, reading, writing, and spelling. All basics they will continue to use when they are adults.

Kids' brains also develop nearly to their fullest during this time, which makes it crucial for them to be around a trained teacher. Below are the benefits of private elementary education for your children.

  1. Individualized support for your child: Whenever you visit private elementary schools, you will notice that they often have fewer students than public schools. The benefit here isn't in the number of students in the school as a whole, but the teacher to studio ratio. A lower student-teacher ratio makes it easier for educators to offer individualized attention to each student and support them through the learning curve. Remember that this is the first time your child will be away from home on their own for such a long time during the day. They need as much support as possible, which is readily given to them in a private school setting where teachers are able to more readily address their students' needs.

  2. Availability of specialized teachers: Gifted students and students with learning disabilities need a little more extra time to nurture them. Private schools can hire specialized teachers to cater to these needs. Teachers will even tell you of your child’s ability or lack thereof, and you can formulate a plan to work together with your child's teacher to cater to their specific needs. The teachers will share valuable knowledge that will help you work with your child at home, as well. And don't worry about a lack of experience or education, either. Generally, 60% to 80% of all elementary school teachers in private schools will have an advanced degree.

  3. Curriculum choice and flexibility to fit the kids: Kids need to be given subject choices and be allowed some curriculum flexibility to meet their needs. In a private school setting, the curriculum is likely to be pretty flexible. You are likely to get a school that has an inclusion of an art summer camp and an array of private school extra curriculum activities your child can join including sports, music, and theatre classes.

  4. Key focus on values and culture: Private elementary schools are centered around cultures and values. When looking for a school for your little one, be sure to shop around for one that embraces the same values and culture you and your child abide by.

When it comes to selecting a private elementary school for your child, make a list of the most important aspects the school must have. When you visit a local private school near you, check your list and see if it meets most, if not all, of the qualifications you have set.
