Private School Enrollment on the Rise in 2017

As a parent, choosing between sending your child to private school or public school is one of the biggest decisions you will ever make. And if you're a parent to more than one child, you'll need to make it again! While there are many reasons a parent might choose one school over another, each choice comes with unique benefits. Public schools used to be the primary choice of many, but recently, enrollment in private school has begun to rise.

In August 2017, the U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics released a biennial count of private school students that said between 2013 and 2015, enrollment in private school rose 7%.

People often choose to send their children to private schools because there are so many benefits of private education, some of which include smaller class sizes, a community environment, and exceptional academic opportunities. Parents are attracted to the perk of smaller classes, for instance, because it allows their child to have more of a personal educational relationship with their teacher. Since there aren't many kids in any private school classroom, each student is offered specific, individualized attention. This is good for children who may need more time to learn something, or for those who may be struggling with a certain subject.

Private schools have the ability to take newer, high-tech tools and teach their students how to use them. This is one of the many major benefits of private education. Many times, private schools offer their students the chance to get involved with intensive programs related to technology, math, and production.

According to the 2015-16 National Center for Education Statistics survey, enrollment for private school from kindergarten and elementary school grades through grade 12 is at 4.9 million for the 34,000 private schools in the United States. This means that private schools account for 25% of schools in the U.S. and enroll 10% of all pre-kindergarten through grade 12 students. The National Center for Education Statistics survey proves that enrollment is up 325,000 students from 2013 and up 410,000 students from 2011.

The enrollment rate for private schools is clearly rising. If you're one of the many parents who believe in providing children with opportunities to excel not only in academics, but in all aspects of life, you may want to consider researching this growing trend.
