Summer Dance Intensive

The Summer Dance Intensive Program from the Conchita Espinosa Conservatory of the Arts offers three weeks of an intensive ballet program for serious, young dancers. Led by the Head of our Conservatory’s Ballet and Lyrical Department, Danella Bedford, and ballet teacher, Patricia Strauss, the summer course is for intermediate students 8 to 14 years old who are looking for ways to grow in their art.

Classes are Monday through Friday, from 9AM to 4PM. Group placement is determined by age and ability, and the curriculum includes daily, ballet technique and repertory classes. It also incorporates special workshops, among them, modern dance, Pilates, dance history, stage makeup, choreography, anatomy for dancers, mime, gymnastics, and character dance. During the repertory classes, students have learned repertoire from Carmen, Giselle, Coppelia, Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake.

Ms. Danella Bedford and Ms. Patricia Strauss teach many of the classes themselves, but every year the program includes guest teachers, who come share their talent and expertise in specific disciplines. This roster of guests has included, the late ballet teacher and long-time friend of the Conchita Espinosa family, Martha Mahr, our very own Conservatory teacher, Ali Goudreau (hip hop), as well many others such as: Shana Wexler (modern dance), Mariana Alvarez (ballet), Veronica Zayas (yoga), Lisa Oganowski (ballet, jazz, anatomy, Pilates), Aeeta Dias (Bollywood), and Erika Johnson (gymnastics, acting).

Technique classes are accompanied live. Two of the renowned musicians who have enriched our dance intensive classes are Pianist, Milagros “Ali” Tejas, and percussionist, Ruben “Tuti” Jimenez.

This outstanding intensive program concludes with a performance at CEA’s Rosita Segovia Theater. The performance always amazes everyone in the audience, especially because it is hard to believe that such polished presentations are accomplished in only three weeks!

Start making plans, because the next Summer Dance Intensive is going to be just as awesome. Call the office for registration information and to schedule an audition. This program has a limited enrollment and it is by invitation only.
