As parents, we want to ensure our children receive the best education possible for future success. Making educational decisions for our kids is sometimes tough and parents want to know which type of options are best. Private school counselors report to the Council for American Private Education that nearly all of their students enrolled in four-year colleges after graduating from high school. Let’s look at some of the reasons why private school students are more likely to graduate from college.
Better Socioeconomic Conditions
Children from families that can pay tuition for private school, are often more financially stable. When a child grows up in a financially stable home, there is less stress surrounding their basic needs. This frees up a child’s attention to focus better on academics. Over the course of their school career, this lack of basic needs stress, and available attention for academics can lead to better academic success resulting in college attendance and graduation.
Better Academic Opportunities
Private schools are not under the stress of struggling with budget concerns, which enables the school to provide better academic opportunities. These schools are not dependent on government funding in order to provide these opportunities. Tough budgeting decisions rarely need to be made, and so children are given many opportunities that public schools simply can’t afford.
Better Extracurricular Opportunities
Students are also able to enjoy better extracurricular opportunities as well. Again, this is due to the fact that private schools are not making tough budgeting decisions. Any opportunities they want to make available to students are made available while public schools must often cut out important extracurricular activities in order to barely cover the academic basics.
Better Social Environment
The students that attend a local private school together are often from the same socioeconomic background. This creates a more cohesive social environment which often leads to fewer conflicts. Social conflicts and tension within a school can be a huge distraction from learning. Students who are free of this tension can better focus on their academics which in turn results in more successful graduates who go on to college and degrees.
