Caring Cougars worked on a school wide initiative with local non-profit foundation, Jar of HeARTS to enrich the lives of young children with pediatric cancer through art.
Jar of heARTS reached out to the CEA community to put into practice the characteristics of a global citizen, such as Compassion, Empathy & Responsibility. The Caring Cougars led the Jar of HeArt bag project, to benefit children who are hospitalized for extended periods of time.
About The heART Bag Project
The heART Bag Project benefits children with pediatric cancer, who often have extended hospital stays. Students decorate and fill bags with art supplies, such as crayons, color pencils, coloring books, watercolors and other comfort items to help ease the treatments and hospital stays of children with pediatric cancer. The project has so far enriched the hearts of over 6,000 children.
Caring Cougars invited the entire school community to sponsor a HeArt bag. They collected over 200 sponsorships! After decorating the HeArt bags alongside Junior Art Mastery, Caring Cougars members filled the bags with tons of art supplies, sponsored by students across grade levels, thanks to their school-wide sponsorship campaign.
This project gave Caring Cougars students a real life picture of the many roles involved in running and/or working for a non-profit organization, from marketing, bringing awareness to an issue, writing, public speaking, organizing, doing the work, and packing and distributing the final product (in this case, the art bags.)
Next, they will organize and distribute the t-shirts to all who sponsored a HeArt bag!
