ISSF Star Students

Each year the Independent Schools of South Florida (ISSF) allows each school to designate up to three students as STARS. These students are those who have shown outstanding ability and achievement in academics, sports, community service, the arts, and/or effort. This year’s STAR students are:

Madeleine Rodriguez
Madeleine was selected for being an outstanding example of a well-rounded student, who has demonstrated exceptional dedication to scholarship, sports, and the arts. In addition to being an excellent student, Madeleine has been a dedicated member of the Cross Country and Track team since the third grade. Throughout her six years as a runner, she has demonstrated consistency, hard work, focus, resilience, patience, and passion. Madeleine is a student who shows up even when things are hard. She is an independent thinker who knows herself and is focused on simply doing what she needs to do. In addition to sports, Madeleine has been a dedicated member of the Spanish dance department and music department through her saxophone studies. She is reliable, dedicated, honest, and demonstrates integrity in everything she does.

Juan Pablo Urquijo
Juan Pablo was selected for being an outstanding example of service, character, and dedication to the arts. Juan Pablo is responsible, trustworthy, and reliable. He is consistently willing and ready to help those around him and actively finds ways to serve his community. Throughout his years at CEA, Juan Pablo has volunteered as the altar server in every Communion and Graduation mass and religious celebration. For CEA and Conservatory events and performances, he is the first to arrive and last to leave, always willing to lend a hand in whatever is needed. Juan Pablo is a supportive friend and a good “compañero.” His energy is contagious, whether onstage, in the audience, on the soccer field, or at school. He aims to always do the right thing, is open to learning and receiving feedback, encourages and supports others to do their best, and spreads joy and positivity wherever he goes.

Diego Varela
Diego was selected for being an outstanding example of dedication to the music department, citizenship, and scholarship. Beyond his innate gifts, Diego has showcased outstanding dedication and hard work in his academic and musical studies. Diego has not missed a musical performance or an opportunity to share his musical talent in his eight years at CEA. He has appreciated and taken in everything that he has been offered, learning multiple musical instruments, participating in numerous ensembles, and taking risks to expand his knowledge and appreciation of the arts. Diego is innately curious and has worked hard to grow as a student, musician, and human being. He is kind, patient, humble, responsible, generous, and open to learning and sharing his gifts with others.

Congratulations to Madeleine, Juan Pablo, and Diego!

You are excellent examples in your community, and we are all very proud of you!
