On Friday, April 19th, second grade held their annual “Night Under the Stars” event to close out their unit on the Solar System.
Students began by reading Midnight on the Moon from the Magic Treehouse Series, which led them on their journey to discover space. In science and across other learning areas, students dove deeply into the the solar system and learning about our universe. “Night Under the Stars” ended the unit with a magical evening of stargazing for second grade students and families. They got to hear from NASA Tests Director, Carlos Monge, who gave students and families a presentation about his work. Then, students went outside to learn how to use professional telescopes from amateur astronomers, Mark and Nancy Lopez (parents of Elise Lopez, class of 2017). Families also enjoyed a beautiful display of space-themed artwork that students created with Ms. Vazquez!
Thank you to Mark, Nancy, and Elise, for faithfully joining us each year to share your knowledge and expertise with our second graders, to Mr. Monge, and to our amazing teachers who organized this event! This is one unit that our students will never forget!
