From October 27-30, the Senior Dance Mastery traveled to Gainesville, Florida for the annual Young Dancer Workshop (YDW) at University of Florida and Santa Fe College. YDW brings together some of the best middle and high school dancers in the state for a weekend of intense learning, growth, bonding, and celebration of dance. Students participated in numerous dance workshops in various styles, from ballet to Broadway, African styles to contemporary, and everything in between, imparted by high level professional dance artists. Teachers included Jennifer Kronenberg, from Dimensions Dance Theatre (ballet), Mohammed DeCosta (West African), Herman Ramos (hip hop), Joan Frosch (improvisation), and Melissa Brenner (contemporary), among many others. It was an incredible, immersive experience for our dancers to grow and blossom in their art! See Faculty.
Our dancers also performed at the Young Artist Gala. Their piece, choreographed by Danella Bedford, was inspired by Shel Silverstein’s poem, “Where the Sidewalk Ends,” and touches on the transition from childhood to the chaos and rush of adulthood. They did an absolutely beautiful job!
