The Hour of Code is Here!

With support from Obama to Shakira, Apple to Zuckerberg, the Hour of Code is Here! The campaign was kicked off by the President, with Google replacing its logo in support, and a workshop in every Apple retail store in America, and support from many celebrities.

Last week was Computer Science Education Week 2013. 5 million students in 35,000 schools across 167 countries participated in their first Hour of Code. As of December 11, 2013, 7.6 million students have already done an Hour of Code, together writing over 240 million lines of code!

CEA Middle School STEAM Advisory students participated in the Code.org event called Hour of Code by teaching 5th grade students computer coding skills. The event is designed to encourage students to learn more about writing code and careers in programming. Middle school students had the opportunity to take a leadership role by teaching 5th grade students the coding skills they know, thus spreading computer science education into the elementary school and learning more in the process!
