Miami Bach Society On Friday, February 26th we were thrilled to host the Miami Bach Society at CEA.
Four distinguished musicians visiting Miami from Russia, France, Finland, and Switzerland, came to CEA to rehearse for the Tropical Baroque Music Festival that took place on Sunday, February 28th.
Jay Bernfeld (France)- viola da gamba
Dmitri Sinkovsky (Russia) - violin
Aapo Hakkinen - (Finland) harpsichord
Luca Piana (Switzerland) - lute
As part of their school outreach program, Junior and Senior Music Mastery, as well as select music students, had the opportunity to watch the last half hour of rehearsal, followed by a Q&A session with the artists. They had the chance to play a real harpsichord and learn about early music instruments and Baroque music.
They will be back in CEA on March 9th for a special assembly for 4th - 6th grades, with visiting guest, Echoing Air. Echoing Air will give the students a lecture demonstration to introduce them to Baroque music through the works of Henry Purcell and his contemporaries. Echoing Air will present a historically informed rendering of this repertoire using instrumental and vocal forces appropriate for the music of this period. The students will be introduced to instruments including the harpsichord, viola da gamba, Gaelic harp, recorder, baroque flute, baroque bassoon, and the countertenor voice, as well as listen to examples of musical forms of the period such as airs, sonatas, and suites.
