FETC 2015
Two of our CEA 6th grade teachers, Ms. Gonzalez and Mrs. Santalo, presented workshops and sessions at the international technology in education conference, FETC 2015. Ms. Martinez (3rd grade) also attended the conference. There were 11,000 participants from around the world at the conference. Thank you immensely to Ms. Lynda Hastings, our Technology Curriculum Director, Ms. Gonzalez, who presented a 3-hour workshop, Mrs. Santalo, who presented a session about student blogging, and Mrs. Martinez. We can't wait to hear all about the wonderful things you have learned in this conference and all of the new insights, ideas, and knowledge that you are bringing back to our school! We are so immensely proud to have you as a part of the CEA Family!

Ms. Gonzalez will be presenting a three hour workshop on how to effectively implement the iPad into school curriculum through app exploration. Educators will discover fun and easy ways to use their iPad to enhance their teaching and ignite their students' love of learning. The session will embrace the power of technology integration with tips and tricks for a successful iPad classroom. In this hands-on session, participants will be introduced to a variety of apps and be provided with strategies for effectively integrating these apps into their classrooms and schools. Ms. Gonzalez will be using apps that support interactive, constructivist, and student-focused learning. The session will explain how to use the iPads in small group instruction, large group discussion, project-based learning, and independent reading.
About FETC:
For 34 years the most dynamic and creative minds in the learning landscape—educators, administrators, district-level leaders, state and national policy leaders—have converged at FETC to take part in this exchange of ideas and techniques for the continuing pursuit of excellence. Annually, 8,500 educators make FETC the cornerstone of their professional development plan. Together they explore the integration of technology across the curriculum, from pre-kindergarten to college, through hands-on exposure to technological tools and best practices.
6th grade teacher Mrs. Santalo and 7th grade teacher, Mr. Companioni, will also be presenting at the FETC conference.
They will be doing a 20-minute session together called "The Big Bold Blog: Bring Out the Extraordinary in EVERY Child" about the Public Relations Mastery blog they run together and how school blogs can be used to develop an online “publication” to highlight student work and achievements.
Students learn useful journalism and business lessons and the experience of blogging gives them ownership in a communication forum. Blogs connect students, teachers, and others to become integral parts of an important learning community.
